Argentina, Buenos Aires. A federal police officer shot and killed a criminal who, along with an accomplice, attempted to rob him in the locality of José León Suárez, in the San Martín district.

Police sources informed the Argentine News Agency (NA) that the officer is a cabo (corporal) serving on the Belgrano Norte train line. According to his account, he was involved in an armed confrontation with two thieves who tried to rob him, just meters from the Camino del Buen Ayre highway.

According to the online portal La Realidad, the officer was off-duty and was approached by two armed criminals intending to rob him. According to the initial investigation, the aggressors pointed their weapons at him, which led to a struggle that ended in gunfire.

As a result, one of the assailants, identified as Ángel Aguirre, was seriously wounded. The criminal was taken to the Mariano Castex Hospital, where he later died from the gunshot wound sustained during the confrontation. A replica pistol was found in his possession, which he allegedly used to intimidate the police officer.

The Instructional Unit (UFI) No. 5 of San Martín, headed by Mariela Paladino, changed the charges of the case to homicide and charged the officer, although no restrictive measures have been taken at this time.

The Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered a series of investigative measures, including expert examinations and photographs at the crime scene; registration of the seized weapons; confiscation of the officer's service weapon; and a complete medical report on the deceased.

The officer, accompanied by lawyers from the Directorate General of Legal Affairs, has been notified at the 4th Police Station of José León Suárez and is at the disposal of the Justice.
